IT’S TIME TO COME SHOW WHAT YOU KNOWThe Iroquois Learning Fair & Club Showcase is taking place on Monday, May 15 from 6:30-7:45 PM. All students are invited to participate in this fun, annual Iroquois event. Give an individual presentation or partner up with a friend. Share something that you have an interest in or passion for…or explore something totally new! Participants will receive a certificate, a token of appreciation, and be entered into prize drawings. This is a great opportunity to share your knowledge with peers, teachers, and parents! Registration forms will be sent home with students, can be accessed on the Iroquois PTO web site, or directly at this link: Extra copies can be found in the Main Office.
Superintendent's Important Message: Talking with your Child About "13 Reasons Why"
On April 28, 2017 Dr. Cosimo Tangorra sent an important email to district parents about the new Netflix series (based on the 2007 young adult novel) "13 Reasons Why."
The series and the novel deal with suicide, bullying and rape, often in a graphic manner. While opinions differ on the book/series, some experts and families are concerned that "13 Reasons Why" sensationalizes suicide. Others feel that it is a realistic portrayal of issues facing our students, and that family and classroom experts can take advantage of student interest in the series to incorporate into discussions as a "teachable moment" (see one teacher's take on the issue here.)
Child/teen suicide and self-harm have been discussed during several recent school board meetings, especially in light of findings published on April 18th in Your Niskayuna from a study on high school stress completed by Niskayuna high schoolers, which found high levels of self-reported stress and concerning levels of self-harm in some student respondents.
You can learn more by viewing Dr. Tangorra's message, which includes links to information on child/teen suicide, here.

What does the Iroquois PTO do?
We support the teachers and staff.
We support the students.
We support families.

For teachers, we provide mini-grant opportunities to fund items or programs for students and classrooms. We also fund cultural/enrichment programs, the staff recognition luncheon, and small appreciation gifts to bus drivers, nurses and other support staff. Past examples of funding use include the library tile project (look UP as you enter the Media Center!), new library chairs, and Google Chromebooks for student use.
For the students, we fund fully or partially events and programs including Drama Club productions, Math Counts, the 8th Grade Graduation Party, Spirit Day snacks, the Ice Cream Social, the Newcomers Dinner, and the Read-a-thon. We also sponsor and staff all student socials.
For families, we provide an Internet Safety presentation in the fall, snacks at events, and stock and staff the School Store with student supplies and Iroquois gear.  We also provide support for school costs for families dealing with hardship (families needing assistance are urged to contact the Principal, ).

How can you help?

Ways you can support our students, teachers, and school:
  • Join the PTO! Dues support the activities listed above, and you receive this complimentary School Directory.
  • Attend PTO meetings to learn what is going on in the school and give input on PTO activities.
  • Join a committee! Sign up online to help out or chair a committee, or contact
  • Participate in one or more of our fundraisers! This year’s fundraisers include the sale of Yankee Candle merchandise, Spiritwear sales, and Iroquois PTO night at Chipotle.
  • Make a donation to the Iroquois PTO. If fundraisers aren’t your thing,
you can donate using the PayPal Donate button on this page, or drop a check made out to the Iroquois PTO at the Main Office. Donations are tax-deductible and may be matched by some are employers
. (You'll still get fundraiser notices, but you can recycle or delete them.)
And no matter which way you provide support to the PTO (fundraising, donations, or volunteering), we greatly appreciate all that you do.
